Clearview Cancer Institute Volunteer Services

Volunteering at Clearview Cancer Institute is a fulfilling and rewarding experience. Volunteer Mission Statement:

The role of a volunteer is to enhance the quality of life of our patients and caregivers by providing excellent care in a warm, supportive and caring environment.

Volunteer Job Opportunities

Infusion Area

Volunteers provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the infusion area by offering our patients light snacks, coffee and juices. Duties include stocking the hospitality area with snacks and blankets. Sensitive and caring personality with good communication skills needed; requires extensive walking. Volunteers in this area need to be a cancer survivor or a caregiver to a loved one.

Lobby

Volunteers in the lobby serve up hot coffee and always with a smile. If you are outgoing and have a good listening ear, then this might be the job for you. Duties include making coffee and assisting patients with directions within the facility. Good communication skills needed.

Floater

Volunteers need to have good organizational skills. Duties include organizing magazines in the lobby, the magazine cart, and restocking/organizing materials for the patient resource area. The floater volunteer is responsible for stocking the imaging, outpatient medical and areas with snacks. Good communication skills are needed; extensive walking.

Volunteers support the emotional and spiritual needs of cancer patients and their families. Volunteer must have good communication skills. This position is for the Russel Hill location only.

Volunteer to perform clerical duties in the volunteer room. Duties include assembling patient handbooks and assisting with special projects. Willingness to work alone; strong organization skills required.

We are seeking talented musicians to provide soft, therapeutic music in the lobby for our patients and caregivers. Recital and performance experience required. This position is for the Russel Hill location and Singing River Cancer Center in Florence.

The Peer-to-Peer Program is designed to connect patients and caregivers one-on-one with a volunteer patient or caregiver that understands the journey ahead. The primary goal is to lessen the worry and stresses that might occur following a diagnosis by providing a listening ear and support. The Peer-to-Peer Program will serve to provide additional support and in no way take the place of clinical care. We are fortunate to have many caring volunteers who support this mission through their dedicated service to our patients, families, and visitors. Click here to learn more and apply.

Volunteer Requirements

These procedures are in place to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our patients, families and volunteers.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to enter program
  • Commit to volunteering 2 hours a week for at least 3 months
  • Fill out an application
  • Complete required TB Skin Test (available at no expense through Clearview)
  • Authorized reference check
  • Attend a personal interview with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Attend an orientation training session
  • “Shadow” a seasoned volunteer prior to placement
  • Begin volunteering
