Stem Cell Transplant
In cooperation with Huntsville Hospital, Clearview Cancer Institute provides stem cell transplant services to our community. During stem cell transplant treatment, the patient donates his/her own stem cells which grow important parts of the bone marrow and blood. These collected stem cells are then processed, frozen, and stored until the time of transplantation. The patient then receives high doses of chemotherapy to destroy all the cancer cells. The collected stem cells are then infused into the patient to rescue the bone marrow from the effects of chemotherapy. Within weeks, the patient’s bone marrow and blood cells begin to regrow. This treatment improves survival for some patients with multiple myeloma, non-hodgkin’s lymphoma, hodgkin’s lymphoma, and other leukemias.
